Giant Antique Ophthalmologist's Model of an Eye in Papier Mâché and Oak
A rare and spectacular ophthalmologist's model of an eye, circa 1900-1910, consisting of a large and well detailed, hand painted papier-mâché eye model suspended by a brass chain and housed in its original oak and octagonal glass cabinet, with three separate mortise locks on the case top, with door that opens for access, with white stenciled numbers and letters. This model of an eye makes for a striking and unusual tabletop sculpture which is both a fascinating artifact of medical history and an interesting scientific and artistic object.
