19th Century English Royal Doulton Trompe L'Oeil "Copper” Pitcher in Pottery
A beautifully and inventively made English Royal Doulton trompe l'oeil pottery pitcher, English, circa 1880, made of glazed ceramic, but designed, in every detail, to resemble a copper pitcher. From its perfectly crafted rivets and the appearance of old dents, together with a verdigris green glaze along the edges of the 'riveted copper' panels, meant to evoke an old metallic patina, this rare stoneware pottery pitcher is an exceptionally convincing example of trompe l'oeil pottery produced by one of the premiere ceramic factories in England, Royal Doulton. Impressed mark on bottom. This pitcher is a wonderfully witty object on its own, but would also be beautiful filled with flowers.
